Onesong – Chapter 10

September 20, 2017

If you’re at Salt Lake Comic Con this Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday, stop by my table (Artist Alley, Burgundy row, #15) and get your very own signed copy of The Three Books or 1-800-Mischief. If you’ve been enjoying Onesong, you won’t want to miss these. Also, check out all my other awesome titles on my Amazon page.

Meanwhile, I’m hoping to have a release date for Space Ninjas Aren’t Real by next week.

I’ve been told that I was so unfair with where I left last week’s chapter. Aw, was it a cliffhanger? Sorry, not sorry. (grin) Remember when Captain Picard was taken by the Borg and Riker stared him in the eyes and said, “Fire!” Yeah, some of us (me!) had to wait months for that conclusion. Look at you! You made it through the week. Okay, here’s the next chapter.

Onesong is an epic fantasy story filled with action, adventure, and sword and sorcery. Chapter 9 is available for 1 week only! Then, it will turn back into a pumpkin and a new chapter will appear!

Previously in Onesong: As a child, Rivic destroys not only his parents’ village, but also the village of his aunt and uncle, leaving only him and his twin sister, Nyree, alive. Alone, hungry, and wandering through the woods, the twins are found by a beast that swallows Read the rest of this entry »

Onesong – Chapter 9

September 13, 2017

I’m currently working on the 5th book of the Sacred Knight story, which has been given the tentative title of The Missing Thread. I’m going deeper into the story about the reincarnation of Rivic. So I have that in my head while I’m trying to get caught up on the edits for Onesong, as well as reading it just slightly before you are getting this, and it’s amazing to see the two stories piecing together.

Can I say that they are “piecing together” since on Monday night I ripped book 5 down to the scenes and started rearranging? I don’t even know why I bother trying to write that book in chapters! I ought to just start writing it scene by scene and labeling those as I go along since I always seem to end up tearing it all apart and reconfiguring the story. So how does this happen? Well, I have a character (whisper: his name is Steigan) and won’t stop moving around. I kid you not! I have literally had him in New Lilinar, then to Dubinshire, then to New Lilinar, then to the centaur village, then to Whalston, then to Dubinshire, then to New Lilinar again in one book. When I start to see him all over the place like that, I know that I need to simplify. That’s when scenes get rearranged. It ALWAYS makes for a stronger book. I’ve never been sorry that I’ve told Steigan to stay put for a while. And while that means that The Missing Thread will have a lot of work to be done to straighten out the timeline and get the correct characters in position, it’ll so be worth it.

Fun fact: The scene with Jaxsen in the wardrobe (Manifest the Magic) happened because I told Steigan to stay put. In that book, he was bouncing between Searn’s fief, the Temple, and Lilinar. When I went to straighten out the timeline, I needed him to have more time at the Temple and to do that, I gave him a friend. In the end, Jaxsen helped me more than I realized he would at the time. I remember asking myself why I was writing filler, but in the end, Jaxsen shaped a major portion of the story both on and off the page. He is a major character who doesn’t get full credit for what he’s done.

Now, Steigan doesn’t fall far from his relation, Rivic, who also wanted to bounce around a lot. I had much the same issues going on in Onesong when I first started it. But I’ve run this rodeo enough times with Steigan that Rivic was simple to fix by comparison. There were times though. In fact, part of the scene that you will read this week is actually split off from the first fight with the Necroathelings when they were still inside the dragon pearl with Sontre’. Of course, that whole scene was different and originally the Necroathelings did what they do in this scene. No spoilers! Unfortunately, if I had left that as it was, Rivic would have had no reason to stay with Ellonia’s tribe and would’ve had more motivation to get to Gohaldinest. So, the fight got split into two. And yes, that’s what you have to look forward to reading this time.

Onesong – Chapter 8

September 6, 2017

This chapter may end up getting divided into a couple of chapters when I finalize the story. There’s a lot of transition material here. I may also leave it the way it is (with some minor touches) if I don’t feel it’s necessary to expand those transitions.

We’ll see how much more I want to play with it.

Stay tuned for a special post later today. I have a big announcement which I’m so excited about.

Let’s get onto the story, shall we?

Enjoy!

Going to keep this short and sweet for now.  You’d rather be reading the story after all, wouldn’t you?

Yeah, that’s about it. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Onesong – Chapter 6

August 23, 2017

I want to thank those of you who have shared with me about how much you are enjoying the story. Your feedback means a lot to me. When you are sharing your excitement over the story with me, it infects me with your enthusiasm too. Thank you.

I’ve also been getting questions about how this fits into the Sacred Knight story. It seems I have some people who are reluctant to start Sacred Knight until they’ve read all of Onesong. Trust me, you are fine to start reading Sacred Knight. You won’t have any spoilers for Onesong, I promise. Frankly, if you are concerned about spoilers, you probably should stop reading Onesong now and wait for me to finish the Sacred Knight series before reading Onesong. There is a HUGE reveal in Onesong that has gone completely unseen by my Sacred Knight series readers. I know, I’ve asked many of them because I wanted to know if I’d tipped my hand somewhere and unknowingly revealed my secrets.

Oh, don’t let it scare you off. I personally think it will only make the story more dramatic if the reader knows certain things that the main character (Steigan) doesn’t. Which is why I’m putting this story out here every week. Of course, I’m not sure if we’ll get to that part of the book, so the whole point might be moot anyway.

Just so you are aware, Onesong takes place approximately 2,000 years before Sacred Knight. You start to see inklings of how the two stories blend in the fourth Sacred Knight story (Prince of the Ruined Land, which is coming soon as I’ve been told by my first reader that she has finished reading it and that there are no structural problems – yippee! That doesn’t mean I don’t have some things I want to do and clear up that I’ve been thinking about). In the fifth Sacred Knight book which I am currently writing, then the two stories will blend together. Part of my wanting to write Onesong now was so that I could get the event lined out how I need them to be. Same reasons I had to wait until I’d written most of To Birth a Destiny before I released Manifest the Magic, and that I had to write History of a Dead Man before I finished The Three Books; I had to make sure my path matched up with my map. When you’re writing into the dark like I do (that means, writing without an outline or usually even about the next step in the story) sometimes these side adventures help flesh things out. It’s part of the reason why I’m writing extra stories featuring Moonhunter as well as the other Wells of the Onesong stories before I finish up Dragons of Wellsdeep. I want to have as much knowledge about the world my characters live in before I button things down in the novel. It’s a way of setting and testing the ground rules so that my mind can go to work on how to bend them or break them logically. It’s all a mind game and it’s one I play with myself first before releasing it upon the world.

Best job in the world!

Onto Onesong, shall we?

Onesong – Chapter 5

August 16, 2017

Boy do I owe an apology to some people out there.

I suddenly realized after posting last week’s chapter that I had forgotten to include little summaries about what happened previously in the story. My bad!

I’ll do better starting this week, I promise. I’d hate for someone to not read along because they felt the story was too far along to get started. So, summary coming up.

Enjoy!

Onesong – Chapter 4

August 9, 2017

So, in my manuscript, this is actually chapter 3.5. I can’t remember why I made this part come between chapters 3 and 4 originally. Maybe I realized chapter 4 was getting too long and broke it apart. Maybe I did rearrange parts of the story. Anyway, I just laugh and hope that I remember later on that I’m actually now a chapter off from my draft. (grin)

Let’s get to it, shall we?

Enjoy!
