Onesong – Chapter 45

May 30, 2018

Keeping it short and sweet this week.

I thought about adding the next chapter after this one to the story, but the ending of the first part really needs a good break, so I left it here. It might end up being in the end of the previous chapter since it’s not very long at all.

I have divided the book and am beginning my review of the Tangled Magic section of it. I’ll have to re-imagine the ending a bit because it’s not solid right now, but it will all sort itself out. I trust the process. And I know it will be spectacular.

Thank you to readers who have finished Prince of the Ruined Land and excitedly wrote to me to find out if I was going to have the 5th Sacred Knight out soon (The Missing Thread) or these books in the Onesong series. Yes, Onesong is up next. I feel that I needed this part of the story first. The Missing Thread is my current Frankenstein’s monster. Well, sort of. It’s more like pieces and parts lying all around my lab on shelves waiting for me to return to them.

I have wondered if Steigan’s uncertainty is what is keeping me from writing the scene where Keteria wakes up. This is my biggest unknown at the moment. It’s not like I haven’t written the scene where she wakes up; I’ve actually drafted 4 different versions of it, then threw them all out because they aren’t right. Steigan is so worried about her and what’s going to happen, that I now have the nervous jitters about it.  Read the rest of this entry »

Onesong – Chapter 44

May 23, 2018

Well, my friends, we are nearing the end. And this is a chapter I know many of you have been waiting for. The moment. (No, no spoilers in the introduction).

I can’t believe I’ve been running this for nearly a year now.

Thank you to everyone who has been with me since the beginning and to those who have jumped on board. I certainly hope you’ve been enjoying it. I think there are about 5 more chapters left after this one. So let’s finish the fight, shall we?

Onesong – Chapter 43

May 16, 2018

This chapter has a couple of issues. First is a bad transition — I never mentioned that Rivic leaves Gohaldinest to go back to his tribe. I felt as if I couldn’t write the transition scene now because I probably already have something written anyway which just needs a better place. So I’m leaving that.

Second is that this chapter is one that will get split into two later because it’s information heavy.

In the first part, Rivic and Alityka are talking about the workings of the magical markers on the bloodwave and what it means. Later on, after Alityka shows Rivic the absorption stones (little stone pieces of gargaxes which can temporarily take away magic, for those of you who haven’t read the Sacred Knight series), they speak more specifically about how removing a thread from the bloodwave can happen. It contradicts some of what was said earlier. They need some space separating them to invest time for Alityka to have gained more knowledge.

For the moment, I’m leaving the whole chapter as it is – talking heads and all — just because throwing a novel like this out there each week doesn’t allow me to go back and correct things in the timeline as I discover them. You really don’t want me messing around with your memories in the way that would take. Trust me. This way is much better.

Well, now I’ve forewarned you about this chapter. Let’s get to it.

Onesong – Chapter 35

March 21, 2018

This is another section of the story (two actually according to my navigation sidebar) that I don’t know if it fits in this section. I really can’t wait to finish up Prince of the Ruined Land so that I can get back to work on finishing this story. Of course, I figure Loki will be bugging me again soon too, but I’ll pretend right now that he’ll give me a bit more time. (grin)

I was asked about my blog on Monday where I said that I don’t keep track of what’s going on in my story and how I can keep multiple plots in my head (because I had said that I needed to tame my writer child self to only writing one story at a time). I admit that it was much easier when I was younger. But yes, I do not keep track. To me, it has always felt more like plotting if I start writing down what happens in each chapter. Since I write in the dark (without plotting the story out), I really don’t want it to feel as if I’m plotting and looking for the next logical thing to happen. I’d rather trust the process and rely on my gut telling me what I need to do next. Besides, when I do write it down, I then don’t have the details that I want when I need them. It’s easier for me to do a Find search on the document to locate a detail that I need. Read the rest of this entry »

Onesong – Chapter 34

March 14, 2018

This is another one of those rough chapters I mentioned. I’m not sure that all of it fits here in the story, but for now we will pretend that it does. When I’ve had a chance to work on this story, I’ve been trying to figure out more of Cirvel’s back story. I have some very big questions that I need answers to.

And in working on that backstory, I started contemplating the twin story to this one, the one I split off from this one. I have a feeling that it somehow wraps around with Cirvel’s story too.

So many stories, so little time. (grin) Read the rest of this entry »

Onesong – Chapter 33

March 7, 2018

Okay, I’m going to admit that it was in writing this chapter that I really started to enjoy Cirvel. He’s always been an interesting character, but he becomes so deliciously cunning here that I really started to adore him. He was good fun before, but now… now I really long to tell his story.

This chapter also came about because of working on the audiobook for Quest for the Three Books. I was at the part where Greytas is standing against Steigan at the Induction Ceremony where Steigan becomes Martias’ Sacred Knight and Greytas makes a comment about how the ceremony had become a circus show. The more I thought about it, the more I wondered if this world had circuses. Obviously they must, right? It was said, therefore there must be a circus. So, I wrote a scene to add a circus. It was a completely dislodged scene and I had no idea where it would find a home. Then I started writing the rest of the scene in this chapter and I knew the circus would fit in here.

That’s when Cirvel started showing his true devious colors. Read the rest of this entry »
